Ft. Lewis Army Base - the Perfect Storm

One of our many milestones of success came in the spring of 2008. It started as many projects do with specific tasks outlined and a reasonable timeline to complete the work. The project was located at the Ft. Lewis Army Base in Washington State and consisted of 13 barracks interiors totaling around 585,000 SF of surfaces to prepare and paint. We were not alone on this project a general contractor was involved on other renovations at the same time. The project began with several trades having to work around each other and find ways to work together in a productive manner. After only a few days into the project the Garrison Commander had requested we complete the work by June 1, 2008, which seemed to be an almost impossible task sense it was already the middle of May. The request seemed unreasonable at first, but the reason behind it was a lot of troops were coming home from Iraq and these were the barracks they would be calling home when they got back. We certainly could think of no better reason to accept and meet this challenge which so aptly got named “The Perfect Storm”, those men and women deserved to come home to comfort. We got together with the general contractor, made a clear plan of attack, rallied our painters and went to work. The teamwork was amazing and we were successful. As if the pride in our success wasn’t enough our crews were acknowledged by a letter and the company was given an Army Corps Public Works coin in recognition of a job well done. The coins are an honored tradition that all branches of the military share and are only given out as a symbol of excellence, that truly was a milestone of success for our company, our family.
